Short answer: on a $10 digital item, Etsy takes $1.40 and you keep $8.60. If that sale came through Etsy's Offsite Ads, Etsy takes $2.90 and you keep $7.10.
The figures below use Etsy's US seller rates as checked in September 2026. They assume a digital download with no shipping, and they leave out sales tax. Rates change, so check Etsy's own fee page before you price anything.
The four fees on every Etsy sale
- Listing fee: $0.20, charged when you list and again each time an item sells or renews.
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of the sale price (plus shipping and gift wrap, if you charge them).
- Payment processing: 3% + $0.25 per order (US rate).
- Offsite Ads: 15%, but only on sales that came from an Etsy ad on Google, Instagram and other sites. Shops over $10,000 a year pay 12% and cannot opt out.
The $10 sale, line by line
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Listing | $0.20 |
| Transaction (6.5%) | $0.65 |
| Processing (3% + $0.25) | $0.55 |
| Total fees | $1.40 |
| You keep | $8.60 |
| Offsite Ads, if it applies (15%) | +$1.50, leaving $7.10 |
What you keep at common prices
| Sale price | Etsy fees | You keep | You keep with Offsite Ads |
|---|---|---|---|
| $5 | $0.92 (18.4%) | $4.08 | $3.33 |
| $10 | $1.40 (14.0%) | $8.60 | $7.10 |
| $15 | $1.88 (12.5%) | $13.12 | $10.88 |
| $20 | $2.35 (11.8%) | $17.65 | $14.65 |
| $25 | $2.82 (11.3%) | $22.18 | $18.43 |
| $50 | $5.20 (10.4%) | $44.80 | $37.30 |
| $100 | $9.95 (10.0%) | $90.05 | $75.05 |
The fixed $0.45 (listing plus the processing flat fee) hurts most on cheap items. That is why a $5 product loses more than 18% to fees while a $100 product loses 10%.
The number Etsy does not show you
What you keep is still not yours to spend. Side-hustle profit is usually taxable income. Many sellers move a fixed share of each payout, often 15% to 30%, into a separate account so the tax bill does not come as a shock. At 15%, the $8.60 from a $10 sale means setting aside $1.29. This is not tax advice. Ask a tax professional what rate fits you.
